Preparing to Leave Stanford

Student status

Your student status will remain active until shortly after your degree is conferred. Students on RA or TA will still receive their paychecks until the end of their appointment (see Graduate Student Funding for schedule), unless terminating their appointment early.

Cardinal Care (if enrolled)

Cardinal Care is an annual plan from September 1 - August 31. Students will have coverage until August 31 and be charged accordingly unless they take steps to opt out of Cardinal Care by the applicable deadline. Students who graduate in Autumn and Winter quarter are eligible to submit the Petition for Early Cancellation by the December 15 (fall) or April 15 (winter) deadlines. Stanford Email Services

Your Stanford email address will remain active for 120 days after you graduate (see here for details) and you can sign up for a free Stanford alumni email here.

Diploma distribution

The quarterly degree conferral dates are posted on the Student Services website. Currently all students are encouraged to update their diploma distribution to “mail” via Axess. Additional details on diploma distribution can be found on the Student Services website. Please remember that you must clear all outstanding charges and holds w/ the University in order to receive your diploma.
